Why Migrant Payroll Is Going Stablecoin

Indonesia deployed 296,948 migrant workers abroad in 2025, exceeding its target of 259,144, according to the Ministry for the Protection of Migrant Workers. As that workforce grows, Anytap says frustration with legacy international wire transfers is growing alongside it — high fees, currency conversion costs, and slow settlement between a worker’s host-country bank account and family back home.

Stablecoins pegged to the US dollar, such as USDT, are emerging as an alternative. A 2026 Stripe survey found 57 percent of global independent workers would choose stablecoin payouts if their platform offered them, and workforce platform Deel launched a dollar-denominated stablecoin wallet for contractors in over 150 countries the same year — signalling that crypto payroll is moving from niche to mainstream global payments infrastructure.

A Crypto Card Issued Before Departure
