The shooting was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of 36th Street. Officers found a 33-year-old man in the courtyard of the apartment complex with at least one gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to SDPD.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was standing in the courtyard when the suspect approached him from the alley and shot him, police said. Officers said the suspect fled from the scene following the shooting.

He was last seen possibly heading south toward University Avenue wearing white pants, a black shirt and a black backpack.

Detectives learned the suspect was related to a resident at the apartment complex. Police identified him as 32-year-old Edgar Sanchez.
