A 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the Bay Terraces neighborhood, San Diego Police Department said Wednesday.

A 17-year-old boy was stabbed twice in the ribs in the Bay Terraces neighborhood, San Diego Police Department said Wednesday.

According to OnScene TV police officers believed the stabbing occurred near the WingStop in a strip mall at Alta View Drive and South Woodman.

OnScene added officers canvassed the area and found additional crime scenes throughout the parking lot. They were seen setting up police tape and interviewing witnesses of the stabbing.

Police officers searched the area but did not find any suspects. The stabbing victim was transported to Mercy Hospital, his condition is unknown at this time but was not considered life-threatening.

The suspects, a group of five or six boys, approached the victims, a group of five or six boys, according to SDPD Officer John Buttle.

One group challenged the other group to fight, Buttle said. The victim group ran away.

The suspect group fled northbound on Woodman Street, Buttle said.

Gang detectives were handling the investigation.
