Caltrans to host two free 'Dump Day' events this weekend
To help people continue with their spring cleaning, Caltrans is hosting two more free dumpster disposal events this weekend.
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- To help people continue with their spring cleaning, Caltrans is hosting two more free dumpster disposal events this weekend.
People can bring non-hazardous and unwanted household items to either of the following sites on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, or until they reach capacity.
-- Caltrans Santee maintenance yard at 8502 Railroad Ave.
-- Caltrans Kearny Mesa maintenance yard at 7181 Opportunity Rd. in San Diego
Before you load up your vehicle with bulky furniture and appliances, keep the following list of prohibited items in mind.
-- hazardous waste (batteries, paint, oils, etc.)
-- construction debris (concrete, dirt, asphalt, asbestos)
-- compressed gas and aerosols
-- treated wood waste
-- refrigerators and freezers
Caltrans will accept up to four mattresses and four tires separated from the rims per household.
The dump day events are part of the Clean California program, an effort meant to give people the opportunity to dispose of household waste properly and prevent highway debris and illegal dumping.
Caltrans said since its launch in July 2021, the Clean California program has resulted in 2.3 million cubic yards of litter being disposed of throughout the state.
