Eastbound I-8 to close starting next Friday in East County
Parts of Interstate 8 will be closed this weekend for repair work, Caltrans announced Tuesday.
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Parts of Interstate 8 will be closed next weekend for repair work, Caltrans announced Tuesday.
Caltrans has scheduled a full freeway closure on eastbound I-8 from west of Jackson Drive starting 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 through La Mesa and El Cajon. Crews will be working to repair the bridge over El Cajon Boulevard.
The work on the El Cajon bridge deck is expected to be conducted through Monday, Sept. 16 at 5 a.m. It is part of a $27.7 million two-year project dedicated to repairing several bridges in East County, according to the agency.
Motorists will be detoured to northbound State Route 125, eastbound on State Route 52, southbound on State Route 67 and then to eastbound I-8.
There will also be closures on connector ramps including the following:
- Northbound and southbound SR-125
- Westbound I-8 to southbound SR-67
- Eastbound I-8 to northbound SR-67
- Eastbound I-8 to El Cajon Boulevard, Chase Avenue and Main Street

Construction noise and lighting will be in place during the closure. The work schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic and other factors, Caltrans said.
