Orphan Kitten Club (OKC) announced its “Got Formula?” grant program provided more than one million meals to bottle feed orphaned zero- to eight-week-old kittens in more than 50 U.S. shelters and rescues, including San Diego County.
The county’s Love Your Feral Felines, Kitten Rescue Life and Today Tomorrow Forever Animal Rescue received 50,000 meals in total during OKC’s summer drive.
Founded by beloved Hannah “Kitten Lady” Shaw, OKC aims to innovate pediatric care and advance protections for neonatal kittens in shelters.
Last year, 3.3 million cats and kittens entered shelters across America, with an estimated 10% being euthanized, often due to the high demands of neonatal care, according to the nonprofit. The “Got Formula?” initiative sought to prevent euthanization due to hunger during kitten season by supporting shelters with the necessary resources and expertise.
“During this busy kitten season, we wanted to ensure our partners and their fosters could focus solely on their lifesaving efforts,” said Jackie Noble, executive director of OKC. “To make things easier for them, we delivered formula directly to their doors, allowing them to continue their important work without this added stress.”
“We’re honored that, with the support of our incredible donors, we were able to provide more than 3,500 pounds of formula during this crucial time,” Noble said.
Since 2016, OKC’s Mightycat program has awarded over $2.9 million in partner grants to support innovative programs, medical care and ethical research for neonatal kittens.
