Investigation underway after body found in Oceanside Harbor

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Authorities are investigating after a male body was found in Oceanside Harbor Monday morning, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

The department's Marine Safety Unit responded after receiving a report of a body floating in the water around 9 a.m.

Upon their arrival, authorities found the body of a man in his late fifties located between a boat and the "G" dock, the department said. They confirmed the man had already passed away and could not be saved.

The Marine Safety Unit removed the body from the water and the Oceanside Police Department was called to the scene. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.

In a statement, officials offered a reminder to the public about the importance of wearing a lifejacket whenever you are on a boat or on a dock.
