SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Evacuation warnings were issued Tuesday for areas north of Palomar Mountain due to a fire that has been burning in Riverside County since Monday.

The Nixon Fire, which was first reported Monday in the area of Tule Valley Road and Richard Nixon Boulevard in Aguanga just before 12:30 p.m., had grown to 4,941 acres and was 0% contained as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Cal Fire/ Riverside County Fire Department.

As of Wednesday evening, the fire is at 5,192 acres and 8% contained.

"Although the fire currently remains within Riverside County, it has the potential to extend into San Diego County if conditions change," the County of San Diego said.

The American Red Cross has set up an overnight shelter at the Temecula Valley High School, located at 31555 Rancho Vista Road in Temecula.
