The San Diego Humane Society’s “Clear the Shelters” month promotion remained in effect Monday, continuing through Sept. 10, with adoption fees reduced by 50% to help alleviate overcrowded shelters.
The organization will also waive all adoption fees on Sept. 7 for a special “Clear the Shelters” day. The promotions are part of NBC Universal and Telemundo’s Clear the Shelters month, intended to spread awareness about the importance of pet adoption.
“You can be a hero for animals by being part of the solution,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of San Diego Humane Society. “If you want to add a pet to your family, there is no better time than now to adopt because there is a perfect match for you just waiting for a second chance.”
According to the organization, unlike previous years, the shelter has an abundance of puppies and kittens. Every adopted animal comes spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.
Adopters also receive an adoption guarantee, a voucher to a free veterinary exam, 30 days of pet insurance at no obligation, training advice, pet supplies and educational information to ensure a smooth transition for pets into their new homes, according to the nonprofit.
San Diego Humane Society is open for walk-in adoptions Tuesday through Sunday at its campuses in Escondido, El Cajon, Oceanside and San Diego. Adoptions take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
All available pets can be seen at sdhumane.org/adopt.
