SD Women’s Foundation Receives Peacemaking Award from National Conflict Resolution Center

The San Diego Women’s Foundation, a group that connects, educates, and inspires women to come together in collective philanthropy, was recently awarded the 2024 Philanthropy in Peacemaking Award at the National Conflict Resolution Center’s 36th annual Peacemaker Awards.

The award celebrates the work of philanthropists and philanthropic organizations working to build bridges and fund solutions to pressing issues. The ceremony honors outstanding people who turn challenges into opportunities and engender movements to resolve society’s greatest needs.

The foundation connects women to provide funding to under-resourced communities in San Diego County.

The contributions and talents of over 200 members have resulted in over $5 million in grants that has been awarded to over 100 nonprofit organizations, touching thousands of lives locally.

Last year, members granted over $273,000 in unrestricted funding to seven organizations working to address disparities in early childhood education by supporting kindergarten readiness in under-resourced communities.

This year, the organization will provide unrestricted and multi-year funding to organizations working to address the youth mental health crisis.

After research and training, foundation members have found that hat inadequate access to services, the lingering impacts of COVID, and the perceived stigma of mental illness have exacerbated the crisis facing youth in our community, particularly LGBTQ and low-income youth.

Through active efforts, both the foundation and the National Conflict Resolution Center work to engage and empower individuals to address critical issues and build better and more equitable communities.
