The 47-year-old resident recently traveled overseas and has been hospitalized, the county Health and Human Services agency said in a release Sunday. They may have exposed others at a number of locations in Encinitas and Carlsbad.

Measles is one of the most contagious infectious diseases. It can be airborne or spread through droplets. It can be spread through coughing and sneezing or simply by being in the same room as someone who is infected.
Measles symptoms include coughing, sneezing, runny nose, and conjunctivitis, followed by white sores in the mouth and a characteristic rash of red spots that can spread over the entire body. It can also have serious complications, such as pneumonia or encephalitis.
