Speeding Wrong-Way Driver Kills Himself, Another Driver on I-5 in Chula Vista

Two drivers were killed early Wednesday in a wrong-way collision on southbound Interstate 5 in Chula Vista, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Two drivers were killed early Wednesday in a wrong-way collision on southbound Interstate 5 in Chula Vista, the California Highway Patrol reported.

At 3:21 a.m. Wednesday, a wrong-way driver in a Honda Sedan started at the border and traveled north in the southbound lane of I-5 at high speed.

The Honda hit a Camaro head-on just north of Palomar Street.

The Camaro burst into flames. The Honda crashed into the center divider of the highway.

Chula Vista firefighters tried to rescue the drivers, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.

No identification of the victims was immediately available.
