Victim, 54, of Fatal Balboa Park-Area Hit-and-Run ID’d as Darren Stevenson
Darren Stevenson, 54, succumbed to his injuries Sunday morning at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
Authorities have publicly identified a homeless man who died last weekend from injuries he suffered nearly a month earlier in a Balboa Park-area hit-and-run.
Darren Stevenson, 54, succumbed to his injuries Sunday morning at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
At about 8:15 p.m. on April 3, Stevenson was walking to the south with a companion in a bicycle lane in the 1300 block of Pershing Drive when a car struck him from behind, leaving him with a brain hemorrhage, a collapsed lung and fractures to his skull and spine, police said.
Following the impact, the motorist continued driving and left the area.
Based on vehicle debris left at the scene, investigators think the vehicle that struck the victim may have been a black 2007-12 Toyota Camry. The car lost a passenger-side mirror and possibly sustained other visible damage when it hit Stevenson, according to police.
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
