Viral video depicts fight at Padres' home game against Twins
A fight broke out between two spectators at the San Diego Padres' game against the Minnesota Twins at Petco Park Tuesday night.
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A fight broke out between two spectators at the San Diego Padres' game against the Minnesota Twins at Petco Park Tuesday night.
The joust, which was filmed by another fan at the game, was posted to X, formerly Twitter, around 8 p.m. and has since gone viral.
In the nearly minute-long video, two men could be seen throwing punches at each other from adjacent rows while shouting unintelligible taunts at the other. Several bystanders could also be seen attempting to intervene.
The fight seemed to end in the video after a young woman, who appeared to have gone to the game with one of the two men, steps in. At that point, her presumptive companion was visibly bloody around his nose and on his shirt.
In a statement, the Padres said Elite Security personnel and San Diego police officers responded to the incident and detained the individuals involved, both of whom were removed from the stadium for code of conduct violations.
SDPD Sgt. Levi Merriman, who oversees law enforcement at Padres games, told FOX 5/KUSI that neither party wanted to press charges. Medical attention was also declined by both men.
According to the Padres' website, Petco Park maintains a zero tolerance policy for violations of its guest code of conduct, which includes provisions prohibiting "inconsiderate, vulgar, or otherwise inappropriate behavior" towards park staff and other guests.
Violations of this policy, the team adds, could result immediate ejection from the stadium without a refund and revocation of future ticket privileges.
As for the game itself, the Padres went on to win against the Twins 7-5 after making a late-game comeback, racking up four runs during the eighth inning. The two teams play one more time at Petco Park on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 3:40 p.m.
