Are you off to San Diego Comic-Con this year? If you are, you should know that the convention isn’t the only place attendees can expect to find fan favorites. Whether you’re planning to attend or are just looking for a way to join in on the fun, why not venture out for a limited edition dish? From comfort foods to crafted cocktails, here’s a guide on the best themed eats for hungry pop culture mavens.
- Tajima Ramen
Through the month of July, Tajima will be offering a limited-edition Pokemon-themed flight of Sake. Along with the colorful drinks, customers will receive two free Pokemon cards with their purchase. Pro tip: If you mention the phrase “gotta catch them all” you can get a secret fourth flavor. And their Naruto ramen — inspired by the beloved anime series — is available to pair with their sake flight for a limited time at all locations.
2. Spill the Beans, Gaslamp Location
Conventions are thirsty work. If you’re in need of a caffeine boost, Spill the Bean’s Shrek theme will make for an interesting coffee run. The star of the show is their Shrek’s Swampaccino, made with iced Chaga and Taro Tea Latte with a Matcha Cold Foam with the option to add espresso. There will also be a Donkey’s Morning Waffle which features French Toast Waffle Bagel, Maple Butter, 2 fried eggs, American Cheese, and Chicken Sausage. These items will be available from July 24th through the 28th.
3. Jack in the Box, multiple locations
Deadpool & Wolverine is a highly anticipated movie among die-hard comic fans, and now there’s a meal to show for it. In honor of Deadpool’s love of chimichangas, their new item, Mini Chimi Bang Bangs, will be available at Jack in the Box locations nationwide, on JackInTheBox.com and on its app from July 15th through September 15th. Jack Pack members can get early access to the new menu item on the app as early as July 8th. The mini chimichangas are filled with seasoned, shredded chicken, corn, black beans, herbs, Southwest-style flavorings, and a side of their signature taco sauce.
Marvel and Jack in the Box will also release 2,000 limited edition packs featuring the main mutants with specially curated art. Distribution will take place at a local Jack in the Box store in San Diego; location details will be released on Marvel.com in the weeks to come.
4. Smoking Gun, Gaslamp Quarter
The Smoking Gun‘s 1980s-inspired interior matches perfectly with their theme this year: Beetlejuice (1988). Their Beetlejuice-themed cocktail, available during Comic-Con week, features Astral Blanco, Italian liqueur, melon, lime, ava salt rim.
On Friday, July 26th, The Smoking Gun will host a Mario Kart N64 competition. Sign-ups begin at 6:00 p.m., with races beginning at 8:00 p.m. Prizes include gift cards to both The Smoking Gun and their arcade, along with merchandise.
5. Coco Maya, Little Italy
If you need a break from the convention and perhaps a little peace and quiet to recharge, the oasis for you is Coco Maya, a rooftop restaurant in Little Italy, hosting a specialty menu through July 25th through the 28th. Guests with a weekend Comic-Con badge can enjoy 15% off. The “Coco-Con” menu includes items like Princess Peach’s Poke, Stormtrooper Spare Ribs, and Dragon Ball Z Drunken Mussels, with cocktails such as the Infinity Stone Flight of mimosas, The Bat Signal and The Baby Yoda.
