Hot temperatures are expected to persist into next week, but the the show must go on -- safely -- for fun-seekers in the region who are looking to enjoy their days off.
From food festivals and live music to cultural events, here are six things to do in San Diego this weekend:
Celebrate all things Greek at this popular festival in Cardiff. There will be folk dancing and live music boasting traditional Greek songs. Attendees can expect authentic delicacies such as Greek-style roasted lamb shanks, souvlaki (shish-kabobs), baklava sundaes, and much more. Admission is only $4 for adults, while children under the age of 12 get in free of charge.
As described by organizers, this event brings "the old-world tradition of kicking off your shoes, rolling up your pant legs and letting tons of blessed grapes squish beneath your feet!" Held at Menghini Winery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, the festival will feature wine tastings, live music and dancing, as well as food and games for children. Admission for adults is $25.
Alex Morgan’s final game with San Diego Wave FC
San Diego Wave FC forward Alex Morgan, who announced her retirement from professional soccer Thursday morning, will play her final match with the club this Sunday at Snapdragon Stadium. The home team will face-off against the North Carolina Courage at 5 p.m. For those who want to watch the game without facing the heat, it will air live on KUSI.
Head to the Del Mar Dog Beach Sunday to catch some of the world’s best surfing dogs out on the water. The talented pooches will be participating in the longest running canine surf competition in the country. There will also be vendors, a costume contest and a kids’ area. Helen Woodward Animal Center is hosting the event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Second Annual Taste of Barrio Logan
A self-guided food tour is returning to Barrio Logan Sunday, a nod to the neighborhood’s unique culture and community. Attendees will have more than 35 local vendors to choose from with bites like tacos, lumpia, churros, and much more. There will also be art and cultural spaces to be enjoyed. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 on the day of the event.
Descendants from many different Native American tribes and communities will gather for a Pow Wow on the grounds at 5577 Dehesa Rd. in El Cajon all weekend long.
