Dog, resident rescued after duplex catches fire in Morena neighborhood
A resident and a dog were rescued from a burning home in the Morena neighborhood Thursday, said the San Diego Fire Department.
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A resident and a dog were rescued from a burning home in the Morena neighborhood Thursday, said the San Diego Fire Department.
Crews responded to reports of a structure fire just before 5 a.m. in the 5500 block of Lauretta Street. Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy flames coming from an attached unit on a property with a single-story duplex.
The fire was contained to the room in which it started and quickly put out, with fire officials confirming there was no damage to the neighboring homes.
SDPD told FOX 5 at the scene that one resident and a dog had to be rescued from the burning home. The dog was given oxygen at the scene and then taken to a local veterinarian. The resident was not at the scene, and their condition is unknown at this time.
A fire official told FOX 5 that an individual was arrested in the area for "unrelated reasons." No further details were immediately provided.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
