Federal protections for pregnant workers have expanded in recent years. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act now requires employers with 15 or more employees to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions.

Even with the law on their side, many women still face employers who are slow to adjust, or who push back against requests that should be routine. Gutierrez recalls one client whose employer terminated her while she was hospitalized with preeclampsia, an example of the kind of treatment her firm regularly works to address.
Many of the women who reach out to Exhibit G Law Firm are still pregnant when they initially get in contact. By the time their cases resolve, the compensation recovered often supports both mother and newborn, helping families through what should have been a protected season of their lives.
Gutierrez came to plaintiff-side work after years on the other side of the table. “Earlier in my career, I focused exclusively on defense work. While I still represent employers in litigation and advise them on compliance, I wanted the freedom to choose who I represent and to stand alongside the women who truly need a voice,” she said.
She also points to a gap she saw in the market. “As a Hispanic woman, I bring a perspective that’s still underrepresented in this space. There simply aren’t enough Hispanic women attorneys representing plaintiffs in labor and employment disputes. That gap is exactly why I founded my own firm.”
That entrepreneurial drive runs in the family. Gutierrez often credits her grandmother as one of the inspirations behind her practice, a Cuban exile who arrived in the United States with nothing. “Together with my grandfather, my Abuela Martha opened her own restaurant — Las Palmas in Los Angeles — where she was the head chef,” Gutierrez said. That example of resilience shaped her own decision to launch a firm built around advocacy for working women.
