SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The city of San Diego is warning residents and visitors of heavy traffic that's expected around the San Diego Zoo this week as the giant pandas make their debut.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and take public transportation.
Once inside the exhibit, the pandas are located at the Panda Ridge Habitat, an area that’s since been expanded since the last set of pandas left five years ago.
FOX 5/KUSI cameras were given access to see the pandas and their new habitat before opening day -- definitely a sight to see .
Here are the three ways to experience the giant pandas at the San Diego Zoo:
- Giant panda timed tickets: You can secure a complimentary timed ticket when you arrive at the zoo. Simply scan the ticket QR code located on signs posted throughout the park and select an available time.
- Standby line: No ticket is needed to join the standby line that will form at the Panda Ridge Habitat any time from 9:30 a.m. until the zoo closes.
- Early Morning Walking Tour: This is a special 60-minute paid walking tour with an expert guide.
Zoo employees want to remind guests to take advantage of a free shuttle that will pick up and drop off at the Inspiration Point Parking Lot where parking is free. To avoid gridlock, people are also encouraged to consider using the MTS.
