A woman was behind bars Thursday and facing a murder charge for allegedly being under the influence when she collided head-on with a car in Bonsall, causing a fatal wreck.
Janely Magali Bautista, 29, of Valley Center lost control of her Chevrolet Silverado while heading east on Gopher Canyon Road shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The truck crashed into an oncoming Toyota Camry east of Hoxie Ranch Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck severely injured the 51-year-old Vista woman driving the sedan, along with her 53-year-old male passenger, CHP public-affairs Officer Hunter Gerber said.
Paramedics took them to a trauma center, where doctors pronounced the man dead. His name has been withheld pending family notification.
Bautista, who suffered minor injuries in the collision, was booked the following morning into Las Colinas women’s jail in Santee on suspicion of drunken driving, gross vehicular manslaughter and murder. Filings of the latter charge in DUI cases generally occurs when a suspect has been convicted of driving while intoxicated.
