SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The man suspected of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl after breaking into her family's Linda Vista home last week was arrested on Sunday, San Diego police said.

Alejandro Jose Confesor, 22, was taken into custody around 11:15 p.m. in the 6700 block of Linda Vista Road after receiving a report about a man drinking a beer in the area who matched the description of the suspect in the burglary, according to SDPD.

Authorities have been looking for the suspect in the burglary since last Thursday, when the incident occurred.

“Yesterday, we pushed out a flyer with information on a suspect we were looking for,” Lieutenant Michael Swanson said Monday.

According to SDPD, the suspect entered a residence located on Wellington Street through an open door, where he then assaulted the 5-year-old while she was sleeping. He then fled the scene on foot.

Days later, on Sunday, surveillance footage appeared to capture the same man again at the property on Wellington Street around 3:30 a.m. However, authorities said he did not enter into the home and no one was harmed.

“We’ve been able to identify him as a suspect in our sexual assault from Thursday morning and our burglary from [Sunday] morning," Lt. Swanson said.

No additional details about the burglary and assault was disclosed by authorities on Monday.

"We haven’t developed any information that it was an intentional act to that victim," Lt. Swanson said. "We’re still investigating.”

According to SDPD, Confesor could face charges including: lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 with force; sex crime with specific circumstances; assault with intent to commit rape or other sex acts during residential burglary; burglary; and trespassing. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Anyone with further information regarding these incidents or video surveillance from the area during the time of the incidents is asked to call SDPD’s Child Abuse Unit at 619-531-2210.
